How to configure/update TDS Mail settings in Outlook 2007
Former Bendbroadband customers
To configure Outlook 2007 to work with TDS Mail, follow these directions:
- Open Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
- On the E-mail tab, highlight your existing TDS Email account and select Remove. If you use Outlook to check more than one TDS address, only remove your TDS Email account.
- Click New.
- If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, select Internet E-mail , POP, IMAP, or HTTP, and click Next.
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Your Name: Your name as you would like it to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages.
- Email Address: Your full TDS Email address.
- Password: Your TDS Email password.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
To manually set up Outlook 2007 to work with TDS Mail (IMAP), follow these directions:
- Open Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
- On the E-mail tab, highlight your existing TDS Email account and select Remove. Caution: If you use Outlook to check more than one email address, remove only your TDS Email account.
- Click New.
- If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, select Internet E-mail , POP, IMAP, or HTTP, and click Next.
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Your Name: The name you would like to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages.
- Email Address: Your full TDS Email address.
- Password: Your TDS email password.
- Manually configure server settings or additional server types: Place a checkmark here.
- Click Next.
- Select Internet E-mail and click Next
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Server Information:
- Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming mail server: mail.tds.net (Business customers with domains hosted by TDS simply enter the server names provided, do not add the domain name in this step).
- Outgoing mail server (IMAP): mail.tds.net
- Logon Information:
- User Name: Your full TDS Email address.
- Password: Your TDS Email password.
- Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave this unchecked.
- Server Information:
- Click the More Settings... button, and select the Outgoing Server tab.
- Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Click the Advanced tab, and check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming Server (IMAP).
- In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, enter 587
- For Use the following type of encrypted connection, select TLS.
- Click OK.
- Click Test Account Settings...
- After receiving 'Congratulations! All tests completed successfully', click Close.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.

To update your Outlook 2007 settings to work with TDS Email, follow these directions:
- Open Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
- On the E-mail tab, highlight the existing TDS Email account and click Change...
- Update the following information:
- Server Information:
- Incoming mail server: mail.tds.net
- Outgoing mail server (IMAP/POP): mail.tds.net
- Server Information:
- Click the More Settings... button, and select the Outgoing Server tab.
- In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, enter 587
- Click OK.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
Former Bendbroadband accounts use the following settings instead of the ones listed below in the step by step instructions.
Incoming server: pop-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP) Port 143 (POP3) Port 110
Outgoing server: smtp-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 25
Secure Authentication: checked yes
or
Optional setting: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 465
Transport Layer Security (TLS)*: checked yes
*On some devices, TLS may not be an option, in which case checking Secure Socket Layer (SSL) may allow TLS
