How to configure Mac Mail 1 (Mac OS 10.3 or earlier) for use with TDS Email

To setup Mac Mail 1 for OS 10.3 follow the instructions below. For instructions on how to configure Mac Mail for OS 10.4.
- Open Mac Mail.
- If you are setting up Email for the first time a "Welcome to Mail" screen should appear. If that is the case follow the steps below; if not skip to step 4.
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Full Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages.
- Email Address: Your full TDS email address
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.tds.net
- User Name: Your full TDS email address
- Password: Your TDS email password
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.tds.net
- Click OK at the bottom of the screen and then NO on the Import Mailboxes window.
- Finally, select NO again and you should be ready to access your Email. There is nothing more that needs to be done!
- If the "Welcome to Mail" screen did not appear start here: Select Mail and then Preferences.
- Select the Accounts button.
- If you have an existing Account on the left, remove it by highlighting it and selecting the Minus (-) sign at the bottom of the screen and click Continue.
- Click the Plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen and click Continue.
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Account Type: POP.
- Account Description: (Type a description for the TDS email account - such as TDS.net)
- Full Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages
- Email Address: Your full TDS email address
- Click Continue.
- Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
- Incoming Mail Server: mail.tds.net
- User Name: your full TDS email address
- Password: your TDS email password
- Click Continue.
- Do not check Use Secure Socket Layer.
- In the Authentication field, select Password.
- Click Continue.
- Outgoing Mail Server: mail.tds.net
- Click Continue.
- Do not check "Use Secure Socket Layer"
- Click Continue, confirm the information is correct, and click Continue again.
- Close the Accounts Window. You should now be able to use Mac Mail to access your TDS Email account!
Former Bendbroadband accounts use the following settings instead of the ones listed below in the step by step instructions.
Incoming server: pop-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP) Port 143 (POP3) Port 110
Outgoing server: smtp-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 25
Secure Authentication: checked yes
or
Optional setting: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 465
Transport Layer Security (TLS)*: checked yes
*On some devices, TLS may not be an option, in which case checking Secure Socket Layer (SSL) may allow TLS
