How to configure Mac Mail 10 (Mac OS 10.0 or later) for use with TDS Email

Former Bendbroadband customers

To setup Mac Mail 10 for OS 10.3 follow the instructions below. For instructions on how to configure Mac Mail for OS 10.4.

1. Open Mac Mail.
2. If you are setting up Email for the first time a "Welcome to Mail" screen should appear. If that is the case follow the steps below; if not skip to step 10.
3. You may get a screen asking you to "Choose a Mail account provider...".
4. Select Other Mail Account...
5. Click Continue.
6. Update the following information:
   • Name: Enter your name as you like it to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages.
   • Email Address: your full TDS email address
   • Password: your TDS email password
7. Click Sign in.
8. If you get a message about not being able to sign in securely, click Continue.
9. Fill out the following information:
   • Email Address: your full TDS email address
   • User Name: your full TDS email address
   • Password: your TDS email password
   • Account Type: POP or IMAP
   • Incoming Mail Server: mail.tds.net
   • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.tds.net
   • Click Sign in at the bottom of the screen.
   • There is nothing more that needs to be done!
10. If the "Welcome to Mail" screen did not appear start here: Select Mail and then Preferences.
11. Select the Accounts button.
12. If you have an existing Account on the left, remove it by highlighting it and selecting the Minus (-) sign at the bottom of the screen.
13. Click the Plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen.
14. Select Other Mail Account...
15. Click Continue.
16. Fill out the following information:
    • Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From:" field of outgoing messages.
    • Email Address: your full TDS email address.
    • Password: your TDS email password.
17. Click Sign in.
18. If you get a message about not being able to sign in securely, click Continue.
19. Fill out the following information:
    • Email Address: your full TDS email address.
    • User Name: your full TDS email address.
    • Password: your TDS email password.
    • Account Type: POP or IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server: mail.tds.net
    • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.tds.net
    • Click Sign in at the bottom of the screen.
    • There is nothing more that needs to be done!
20. Close the Accounts Window. You should now be able to use Mac Mail to access your TDS Email account!

Former Bendbroadband accounts use the following settings instead of the ones listed below in the step by step instructions.

Incoming server: pop-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP) Port 143 (POP3) Port 110

Outgoing server: smtp-server.bendbroadband.com
: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 25

Secure Authentication: checked yes
or
Optional setting: (IMAP or SMTP) Port 465
Transport Layer Security (TLS)*: checked yes

*On some devices, TLS may not be an option, in which case checking Secure Socket Layer (SSL) may allow TLS
